SEARCH FOR ENGLAND GOALKEEPER 2018

30th June 2010

So the England football team are back without a trophy or credibility.

A quote by England goalkeeping legend Peter Shilton on Monday

“The game against Germany was a real nightmare! Losing to our rivals, in such a disastrous manner was embarrassing and summed England’s whole tournament up for me.  Some of the blame has to lie with the keeper; David James was beaten at his near post on two occasions and should not have hesitated in leaving his area to collect the ball before Klose got to it for the first goal. He was left in no-man’s land to see Klose stab it past him and his positioning was just not good enough, from a goalkeeping point of view in terms of technique this was poor. There was no communication between him and the back four. The cohesion was poor and this ultimately led to serious mistakes being made.”

As part of his role as brand ambassador for IGOAL, Peter Shilton is starting today with his search for a keeper for the future.

The first of a series, tonight’s event at Cheam School, will see young keepers from Berkshire, Oxfordshire and Hampshire working with Peter Shilton and a team of coaches for this masterclass.  The coaching team includes Head Coach at Tottenham Hotspur, George Timotheou and Josette Pierman a sports teacher at the school who also plays in central midfield for Reading Ladies.

Those taking part have been put forward by their own team coaches including 3 boys from Newbury AFC, a keeper from Chartered Standard club of the year Summertown Stars in Oxford and also players from county teams from all 3 Counties.

Peter will take time with each of those taking part to analysis their skills and also give them some tips from his long inspirational career.  The children will also receive a signed photo and copy of a 32-page booklet commemorating and recording ALL of his 1005 Football League Games.

Very much a man of the moment and much in demand, the session will end when Peter is whisked away at 7pm by limo bike to record this weeks Channel 4 Comedy Show with Patrick Kielty.

The event runs from 4-7.30pm by kind permission of the Headmaster at Cheam School, Mark Johnson and Air Structures International Limited  (ASI) and will feature the revolutionary IGOALS.
